History: The Shore Music Educators Association was established in 1975.

Purpose:This organization is organized exclusively for educational purposes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

To promote and maintain superior skills and standards among music teachers.
To provide performing opportunities for its members and their students.
Membership is open to anyone interested or involved with music education.

Activities/Events:

  • Meetings are held several times a year October through June, on the second Friday of the month.  Programs include lectures/demonstrations, master classes by invited guests, and panel discussions by distinguished members.
  • News and meeting notices are posted on website: www.njsmea.org
  • Student recitals are held twice a year, in Fall and Spring, open to students of members in good standing.
  • Student Evaluation Program – a non-competitive evaluation by invited adjudicators, of students of all levels, during the first weekend of March.
  • Showcase Audition open to intermediate and advanced students who excel in performing any instrument. Audition and Winners Recital in March.
  • Distinguished Artist Competition -- audition open to advanced budding young pianists and instrumentalists, playing a full program of 4 compositions from 4 different periods. Audition in November; Winners Recital the following March.
  • Youth in Music – open to students playing a program of at least 20 or more minutes from 4 periods. Audition in June. Performance in student recitals the following school year.
  • Opportunities for faculty members to perform.(May)
  • Social gatherings in January and June.
